Her father's words echoed in Karla's ears. A constant reminder of what she was doing here and what was required of her. She gave an agitated sigh as she casually pushed a branch from her path. This morning she had been rudely awakened by her father bursting into her room, a wide grin on his face. You would think after her mother's death that Karla would have become used to her father's antics, but sadly she hadn't. The man acted more like a rhino on a sugar rush than a dark elf noble and her dad.
He had burst into her room and said in a louder than necessary voice, "Today is the day! What the hell are you still doing in bed?! Get up!" The moment the doors made contact with both walls, her brown eyes flashed open and she sprang out of bed, her fists raised expecting some kind of fight. Her father's voice made her tense for a split second before she let her posture slump with sleep as she put her unclenched hand to her forehead. Anyone could tell that she was a bit aggravated by this rude awakening.
"Dad..." her tone was dangerously low and sinister. Her father simply stood in the doorway with a questioning look. Karla clenched her fist and launched herself at her father, still in her nightgown and all. Her fist made contact with his face and the force propelled them into the hallway outside her room. Her father staggered back a few steps before rubbing his cheek, not at all angry or even surprised by her sudden punch.
"WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU BURST INTO MY ROOM LIKE THAT!? WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM!?" Her voice was loud and she felt her face getting a bit red at how angry she was. Sometimes she felt like the only adult in this part of the family. Her father recovered and smiled. "Today is the day you get your beast~!"
She stared at her father as she mental tracked down the date. Crap... it was today wasn't it? Without another word she rushed into her room, her demeanor completely changed into one of excitement. She closed the doors behind her, mindful to bar the door from her father before turning her attention to preparing to met her companion.
Which is how she ended up out in the Mystic Forest by herself. She kept moving forward, following the worn path through the undergrowth. Occasionally she would have to move a branch from her path but other than that minor annoyance, her path was clear.
Without much effort, she found herself at the Mystic Pool. She had half expected to find another elf there trying to locate their own beast. She wasn't feeling very sociable at the moment though so she was relieved to find herself blissfully alone, or so she thought at first.
She heard a rustling in the bushes. Her instincts said to her right and so she drew her sword and positioned herself to face the foliage on that side within a second. Her eyes scanned the foliage but she couldn't spot anything there. Her brown eyes darted over the foliage for any hint of motion but she spotted none. Her senses screamed that there was something there but for the life of her she couldn't spot it.
She didn't relax her stance but she took a step back, her eyes fluttering over the foliage. A sudden movement caused her eyes to shoot in that direction. She spotted the yellow eye through the break in the tree branches. Her grip tightened on her blade as she called out. "Are you just gonna stand there or what?" Her heart was pounding in her chest, hard against her rib cage.
She heard a rustle and the creature stepped from it's hiding place in plain sight. His coloring was so like the forest backdrop that she hadn't seen him at all. His golden eyes focused on her but the creature made no sound. Her eyes stayed on her opponent, her feet planted firmly on the ground so she could move herself into any direction. The creature seemed to have an almost bored expression on his face before she heard his voice.
You should work on spotting enemies when they are blending in. If you don't you will likely fall easily which wouldn't be good for me.
He huffed out a breath that appeared purple in color. Was it poison on his tongue? Regardless, she didn't take kindly to being told she needed to work on something by some creature who hadn't even bothered to tell her his name.
It's Tacitus.
"Like I give a flying flip! You don't tell me what I need to work on!" Then she realized that he wasn't saying any words through his mouth. The realization made her pause. Tacitus chuckled lightly through her thoughts. He stepped forward, not fearing her blade offering his head towards Karla. She lowered her sword and with one hand she placed her hand on his head. She felt a shock pass through her when they made contact. Her heart picked up it's tempo, like a hammer pounding on her chest.
The beast looked at her with his golden analytical eyes as if taking ever aspect of her in. Are you going to tell me your name?
She jumped slightly before stammering, "Oh, I-it's Karla. Karla Vraimont."
He didn't reply but moved away from her touch then using his tail, he scooped her up onto his back. She allowed it more dazed and thrown than she had thought she would be. On Tacitus' back she guided him back to the estate to meet up with her over excited father and to fully become a soldier for the Dark King.
