She could hear the beating of wings that were just behind her, belonging to her best friend in the world that was carrying her. Rune was such an elegant creature and was always there to tote Miku around whenever the tiny girl got tired, but this time it was just a pleasure ride. The small girl always loved going up in the air, so the raptor-like beast was always willing to give a good fly for her owner. But Miku always thought of owner and master to be such words that needn't be said in her situation; she didn't control her beast, she was friends with it, on the exact same level. Rune was able to teach her a lot of things, just as she was able to teach a lot of things to Rune. They both loved each other's company and had apparently been waiting for each other for quite a long time.
Miku's large chocolate eyes were looking at all of the snow-topped mountains, the chilly air nipping so harshly at her skin, but it was also refreshing and enjoyable. They whisked through clouds and caused them to disperse and dissolve into nothing more than invisible moisture falling to the ground.
But of course, Rune had to land at some point to take a rest, and they found a mountain stream that lead to a pool of water that was rather large, probably that of a small lake. The water was crystal blue, shining brilliantly even from their spot in the sky. The feathered beast landed there, kneeling down to allow her elf off of her neck and then moving to the water, leaning down, and lapping up some of it with her tongue through an open beak.
Miku could note that there were fish in the water, swimming around and being nothing but joyful of their lives, even though they weren't really aware of what was going on around them. She smiled at them, squatting down with her legs together. She slowly poked her forefinger into the water and the fish froze, but one of them was brave enough to come up towards the surface and try to nip at the small girl's finger, but she only gave a bright giggle toward it. Miku rose back up to her full height, though of course that wasn't much better than where she was. Even though she was almost a full adult, she didn't look it. Baby face, lush blond hair, large brown eyes, a petite figure and lacking in height. She looked like a mere budding teenager, the poor girl.
Nobody ever truly believed her age when she told them, anyways.
"It's really pretty here, isn't it Rune?" She smiled to her friend, who gave a single nod and a small laugh that only Miku was able to hear; in the real world it sounded like an inhuman chirp. "This is a good place to rest for a while before we have to go back home. I'll get lunch out!" She then turned to a basket that she had attached to her beast's saddle, which she had made not too long ago. It was working out nicely so far and allowed her to take things with her. After she unhooked the basked, she took the entire saddle off to let her creature relax. Rune laid down by the water with her head perked up and eyes fixated upon the basket as Miku opened it, getting out the food for both of them and laying down a blanket for her own self to sit on.
"Open wide!" She threw an entire sandwich into the air and Rune opened her large beak and caught it instantly, swallowing it visibly and giving a loud chirp of happiness, as well as giving a "thank you" in the mind of the sweet girl with that intellectual voice of hers.
Yes, this was definitely the best way to spend an afternoon in the mind of the tiny mage.

A home of many of his teen years, he practically knew the natural structure like the back of his palm. And why he was here today, was nothing more than reminiscing, along with fresh air out of the Obsidian walls. This was one of the few days that Sentrad did not mind getting dragged out of his condemned room.
Hands stuffed in the pockets of the leather-wove vest, Leon held his chin high as silver streaks pressed up against his forehead and behind his ears, the wind becoming more hostile as earth began to to cover the majority of his surroundings, grassland being left to that of the horizon. For a moment, the Dark Elf raised his sights above, a glimpse of a winged beast shadowing the clouds above. Pausing in his step, a daring grin warped upon his masculine features, baring that of a cheeky fang as his thoughts began to run rapid.
Do you think it was another Rider? |
the Chimera questioned, his daunting presence in full as the raven drenched fur waved against the wind. What looked to be a quite a few pounds of fur just around the Beast's neck alone, he shook at his neck, as if to remove few strands that unwantedly occupied his vision. Curved horns sat evenly at his scalp, pointed to the walk ahead as his muzzle tightened, an unsturdy aura radiating between he and his own Rider. Leo? he continued, turning his attention directly at the opposing male, bearing a snarl as his muzzle began to pull back, showing off a case of jagged razored fangs. " Yeah, yeah... don't get your fur in a bunch," Leon snickered, shifting his fingertips against his pant leg as he stared off into the distance. " Not many birds or dragons loom around here during the day light... had to have been a Rider. The question is, who?" The Elf bowed his head down slightly at the ending remark, a giggle erupting in his throat as his grin turned into that of a devilish smirk, crimson orbs narrowing for the hunt. He had been itching for some amusement past that of the Castle residence, and so far, there had been no word from Cyrus on any movement against the Light Elves. Entertainment didn't come easy, unless it had been in the company of his dearest Karla. Should we scout forward? Sentrad questioned, his tone that of uncaring. Peace didn't last as long as one had hoped when around Leon, and this was something he gave in to a long time ago. So much for a peaceful walk. " What could it hurt? Who knows, it might be someone interesting," the Dark Elf cackled, sliding his hands from his pockets as they quickly retracted into fist, the man sprinting forth eagerly without any other notation. A deep growl vibrated from the Chimera as he hesitated to trot forth, following several paces behind his arrogant companion.[/style] [style=font-size: 10px; text-align: center;]TEMPLATE BY SAMARECARM OF OTE + BTN[/style]

Harken sighed deeply as he glanced down at the large, red bat beneath him. I know, Vargas. Harken responded mentally. They always had this conversation when they flew over the Backbone Mountains. It started the same way every time. Vargas would complain about the cold, Harken would tell him to suck it up, and then the two would have an hour long monologue consisting of various insults and reminders of past mistakes. When Harken tried to circumvent the argument Vargas would simply skip straight to the name calling. Harken had eventually learned that if he didn't put up a fight that his beast would eventually back down. Vargas had a way of worming his way under Harken's skin though. Maybe it was the fact that he had known Harken since he was sixteen, or that they shared a telepathic link, or that the bat was just that damn annoying. Vargas picked up on Harken's thoughts already and snickered, the sound coming out as a loud high pitch shriek.
What's wrong, Harken? Vargas asked with mock sympathy. The bat glanced back at Harken, his wings beating as he kept the pair aloft. Is something bothering you? Driving you...bats? Vargas tried to hold back a laugh, but failed miserably. He ended up going into a laughing fit that would have terrified most. Horrific screeches filled the air in rapid succession. Harken scowled as he gripped the bat's horns and forced him to look straight ahead. Vargas had the oddest sense of humor that Harken had ever encountered. He loved bothering people, driving them crazy until he could finally get a rise out of them. After ten years of being linked the General still wasn't used to it. He had developed thicker skin since back then, but Vargas was always learning new ways to annoy other's. Harken being his primary target.
The scarred man refused to responded to his partner as they flew over the mountain tops. As they flew in silence Harken thought of his destination. It had been some time since he had paid a visit to the Mystic Forest. It was an important place for all elves and back when he was younger he would frequent it, or as close as he could get to it. It always filled him with nostalgia, even then when there was nothing to be nostalgic about. He glanced down at his friend. Despite their differences Harken had a strong connection with his beast, like most elves. Sometimes it was good to stop by the place of their meeting. As he lost himself in his thoughts Vargas began to shift.
Harken... Harken.... HARKEN!
What? the man asked dryly.
I hear something... It sounds like a girl. Vargas was gifted not only with incredible durability, but had astounding hearing like most bats. Harken raised a brow and looked down, scanning the ground. What was a girl doing all the way out here? The Backbone wasn't exactly the safest place around. Vargas already knew his owner wanted to see this girl and had already changed course. The behemoth of a bat pulled his wings in a dive bombed. The ground approached fast and Harken felt a tingle in his gut as it grew nearer. At the last second Vargas threw open his wings. The duo landed with a crash, loud enough to wake the dead. Harken didn't bother to dismount his steed as he looked down. The sight was certainly odd.
"This looks quaint." he said as he eyed the young woman and her Beast. "Not the safest of places to have a picnic, but quaint nonetheless." he chimed. The girl looked to be no older than fifteen, if that. He figured his arrival would frighten her, but there were more frightening things in the Backbone than the General. At least he could be reasoned with or bribed. He looked at the picnic basket and flashed her a smirk.

Being a mage, she was always trained, ever since she was little, to expect something that one would never think of could enter their path. She was trained to be ready for anything, but as she heard that crash and sat up perfectly straight, she trembled and almost didn't want to look behind her and wake up from a nightmare, but she knew she was perfectly awake. Rune had obviously taken quick note of it and was up on her two, powerful legs. The raptor-like creature already gave a low chirp that was a warning sign, and she wasn't speaking much anymore. She normally was a talkative creature that always had a conversation going with her elf, but Miku had found that Rune definitely knew when it was time to be quiet and take as much control of the situation as she could.
Miku slowly turned around and stood up, one of her hands clutching her shirt over her chest. It was obvious that this elf was a sadistic one, or possibly something of the sort. He had various numbers of scars from what the blond girl could see, and the smirk he gave her was nothing but taunting. The tiny mage moved her hand to her staff, wrapping her fingers around it and obviously showing that she was willing to remove it from its holder that was always wrapped around her waist. Blinking her chocolate eyes as she observed the beast, she couldn't help but feel slightly threatened by the creature alone.
But who wouldn't? It was a giant bat, for heaven's sake,
Rune apparently wasn't taking the situation as good as Miku was, for she took a bit of a threatening step closer, as a beast would to protect its child. The beast flapped its wings once and then positioned them again as a bit of a warning, her golden eyes narrowed directly on the large bat, not taking too much of an interest with the man himself.
"Who are you?" Her sweet voice cooed out, not trying to sound threatening, but mostly full of obvious curiosity. She always loved to meet new people, and who knows..? Maybe this guy wasn't as bad as he looked and he was actually a really nice person? She doubted it, but who knew.. Right..?
But then suddenly Rune gave another low chirp, turning her attention towards a small outlet that could be considered an entrance to the small lake Miku and her friend had previously discovered. It was like she was waiting for something to emerge from there, so the girl couldn't help but keep shifting her gaze to the opening and back to Harken.

Compared to that of Leon's eager trail, Sentrad was putting little to no effort of jogging to keep up, another brief snarl scrunching from his muzzle. The terrain below the couples' feet transitioned over to another set of welcoming plains as trees began to grow and thicken, leading up to an exposure up ahead. A hushed sound of water could be heard, and the scent of moisture reached out to Leon's nose, a collaboration of childhood memories flashing through his mind as he proceeded forth.
Leo, wait. I smell something ahead- it is more than just a Rider. |
Sentrad's heavily paws slowed, and shortly after, came to a halt as he stared the light ahead face on. Yellow marbles reflected that of the glimpse mist and delicate hues, and his dark nose twitched, trying to retrieve the scents of those ahead. One of them, oddly familiar. It smells of Obsidian... and the other, different by far. Standing several feet ahead, Leon's slanted form weighed itself against his right leg, standing on that of flat ground as the other balanced his slim frame crookedly, boot curved upon a rock. " You don't say? Maybe it's Karla... it wouldn't surprise me if Tacitus was fond of the scenery here," the Elf muttered, a small etch of disappointment curving along his cheekbones. " None the less, we still have a new play toy. Let's go observe, shall we?" The comment was followed by a daring wink as Leon took off into another sprint, the mentality of Sentrad proceeding in a face palm, only if he had opposable thumbs. " Who are you?" The sweeten voice of nothing more than a child breached the ears of the Dark Elf and his following Beast as the opening came to view, a pair of Riders and matching companions along their sides, as well as a damper in the dirt near. Closest to the pair, stood the fragile frame of a woman, who looked none older than a teen emerging from childhood. A delicate flow of blond pressed against a whisper of wind, as did skyline highlighted feathers of her Beast, a strange creature by itself. It's bi-pedal form and Raptor-like trade was quite the spin off with the addition of flight, and made Sentrad uneasy. He had never encountered anything quite like it, even in his lifetime of prowling the Mythic Forest. In front of the feminine duo, was certainly someone of Castle standing. The detailed skin and scar pattern, Leon had noticed the man on more occasion than one, but never had they exchanged words. Then again, it seem to be a fad, when working along the Dark Elf King- trust no one but yourself, and simply follow orders. A beast of similar distortion to Sentrad stood at his side, the winged-Chimera beast in comparable size to the canine. Furious looking, and the lack of knowledge of who the scarred man truly shone his loyalty to, the Chimera was now cautious of both of the beast and their owners, his hind legs bent to an angle in which he was prepared at any movement to thrust forward and begin a defensive attack. The man. He is an ally the Chimera confirmed, taking a hefty paw forward as he caught a matching glimpse from the feathered raptor, borrowing his thicken paw into the dirt in a protective stance. Though, the odds were obvious if anyone pushed any wrong buttons, two Dark Elves verses the one Light innocence that probably didn't even comprehend what was going on. But that alone, was just on assumption. There was nothing saying that the scarred man would, or would not, dare to attack Leon head forth. Or, in most cases, the other way around. " Well now... what do we have here? A party!" Leon cackled nonchalant-like, throwing his arms to his sides in a careless fashion, his smile curved into a crooked grin. As his eyes darted back and forth from the other four in front, his main interest remained upon the girl, curiosity of a Light Elf- and a child, at that, to be all the way out in the Mountains.[/style] [style=font-size: 10px; text-align: center;]TEMPLATE BY SAMARECARM OF OTE + BTN[/style]
