A small pale figure trudged through the forest under growth. Franny was the figure’s name or at least that’s what everyone else called her. Her real name was Neka, but Franny didn’t like that name to much. The eleven year old girl ducked under a very low branch, for she was a very short girl. She was wander around the land, no place to really call her home. No one for the small girl to. Ever since her parents died in a nasty house fire cause by non other than Franny herself, she had been by herself ever since then in the village. That’s when she decided she would leave that place when she was old enough. Though being the age of eleven wasn’t really considered to old, she was looking after herself.
Now why was she here in this forest? For some reason this girl was drawn in by something deep within the forest. Curious as always, Franny just followed her instincts and the strange, yet ancient feeling. She walked on, her feet bare like always. She hated wearing shoes that constricted her feet. It was best to feel the cool dirt between her toes. Franny looked up at the tree canopy with her bright golden brown eyes. Before she knew it Franny had ended up standing in front a large peaceful looking pond. The water looked so pure and clean, almost unnaturally clear. There certainly had to be some ancient power filling this forest all the way down to the last root.
Franny walked slowly down the water’s edge, careful not to get close to the deeper waters for she could not swim. Crouching down, Franny looked at the crystal clear surface of the water. She only saw her own reflection, which for some reason disappointed her. It was as if she was waiting for someone. She looked at the bright golden eyes that stared back at her, the white short hair falling slightly into her face. Gently Franny reached forward and with one finger poked the surface of the water causing it to ripple. Still nothing seem to happen and she let out a small sigh of disappointment.
The water settled and she could now see the reflection of herself clearly again. This time, however, there was the reflection of someone else, or should you say something else. The young girl, strangely calm, turned around to face a large beautiful lion. He had a large black rosettes printed in his thick pelt with a leopard like tail hanging loosely behind him. His crimson red eyes held no threat and just seem to stare at Franny. Large feathered wings were folded neatly onto his back, but Franny could tell that the wing span of the mighty appendages would be very wide. His mighty mane was a deep mahogany color which made Franny want to run her small hands through them.
For a few moments the two stood there looking silently at each other. Franny didn’t feel threatened at all, instead she seem to feel a sense of security coming from the beast. Hello little one. I’ve been waiting for you. A deep, yet soothing voice seem to run through her mind like water. Franny blinked, and then she let a big grin from on her face. “Sorry to keep you waiting.” She said hands folded together behind her back. Franny didn’t quite understand, but what she knew for sure was that she was no longer going to be alone. “My name’s Neka, but I’d like it if you called me Franny instead.” The girl said walking over to the lion so that he was now standing right in front of her by only a few feet. His mighty head did a little bow. It’s a pleasure to meet you Franny, I am Renaldo. The lion’s soothing voice said in her mind. Franny gave another grin,“It’s nice to meet you too Ren.” She had decided Renaldo was to long of a name to say, so the lion would have to get use to her calling him Ren. Ren gave a little chuckle, slightly amused by the girl’s odd personality. Well shall we go? Without hesitation, Franny’s small body scrambled onto the lion’s large, broad back. He had opened his wings and had crouched down to help with the whole process of her mounting. Hold on tight With that Ren flapped his mighty wings a few times to lift off into the air and they flew off together as Rider and Beast to start a new journey together.
